Industrial Mechanic
If you’re the type of person who prefers to fix things rather than just throw them away, and you’re interested in high-tech products, then you have the best chance of finding your dream job as an industrial mechanic.
What does an industrial mechanic do?

As an industrial mechanic at Schütte, you will maintain and service our high-tech machines and perform inspections. This role requires technical understanding, manual dexterity, and precision. You will independently decide on testing procedures as well as whether to replace or manufacture components in-house. Since repairs and modifications are often carried out as a team, team spirit is essential.
Your responsibilities at a glance:
- Manufacturing & Assembly: You process materials such as steel or plastic through turning, milling, and grinding, and assemble them according to technical drawings.
- Service: Occasionally, you will install systems directly at the customer’s site—including abroad—and train them on how to operate them.
The three-and-a-half-year apprenticeship is diverse and offers excellent career opportunities. We’ll teach you everything you need to know to succeed.
We’ve put together some information here to help you determine whether the industrial clerk apprenticeship is right for you and whether you meet the necessary requirements.
Ines Schlömer - Human Resources
During the three-and-a-half-year training program, you’ll attend vocational school in block sessions, meaning you’ll spend several consecutive weeks solely at school, where you’ll learn the theoretical subjects.
After that, you’ll spend a few weeks back at the company, learning the practical aspects of the trade in the training workshop and through projects with colleagues.
As mentioned, you should have a technical understanding, manual dexterity, and an interest in mechanics.
The training requirements include at least a Type 10B secondary school diploma as well as good grades in math, German, and physics. All applicants will first receive a confirmation of receipt of their documents. After a preliminary selection based on the information in the applications, we invite suitable candidates to an initial in-person interview with the trainers and the HR department.
This is followed by another appointment during which the company is introduced, including a tour of the facilities. In the technical trades, you’ll also get to know the training workshop. If you’re still certain that you want to start your apprenticeship at Schütte and we are too, you’ll receive a confirmation and the corresponding apprenticeship contract very shortly.
That always depends on the specific apprenticeship. For all of them, however, you should have good grades and be open to new things; team spirit and commitment are also required.
Depending on the apprenticeship program, it lasts 3–3.5 years. For the Industrial Business Administration program, the duration can be shortened from 3 to 2.5 years with the appropriate high school diploma.
The training allowance is governed by the IG Metall collective bargaining agreement. Of course, salary plays a major role. So don’t hesitate to ask about it.
Training always begins in September. You should apply about a year in advance.
For sustainability reasons, we now only accept applications via email.
We have a specific number of available spots in each training program every year. These are always listed on our website. If there are no open positions listed there, it means we have already filled all available spots.
We can then consider an unsolicited application for the coming year at the earliest.
If you’ve received an invitation to an interview, you should research Schütte and the training program you’re interested in beforehand. You’ll find everything you need to know on our website.
Think about your strengths and weaknesses and the reason behind your career choice. A tip from us: Practice the interview with your parents or friends. It might feel a bit strange, but it helps.
If you’ve received an invitation to an interview, it means we’ve already liked your profile. So you’ve cleared the first hurdle. If you’ve prepared well, there’s no reason to be nervous. Just be yourself.
We want to get to know you better during the interview, and you should take advantage of this opportunity too. After all, we both need to be sure that both the training program and we as an employer are a good fit for you. So you should also use this opportunity to ask us anything that interests you.
We try to support you as much as possible right from the application stage. If you still have questions, you can always send us an email at: personal@schuette.de or feel free to call us. We look forward to hearing from you.
