The ECX: Flexible and Highly Productive

Declining batch sizes due to product customization and just-in-time production are presenting new competitive challenges for industrial manufacturing. With the new ECX series, Schütte offers the perfect solution: a highly productive new single-spindle automatic lathe for batch sizes below the practical or economic threshold for multi-spindle machines. 

The ECX is perfectly suited for the complete machining of complex workpieces in medium batch sizes and with new materials. It combines the flexibility and ease of handling of single-spindle machines with the productivity of multi-spindle machines, thereby bridging the gap between the two worlds.

The Solution for Medium-Sized Production Runs

Uniquely Productive

  • Simultaneous machining with up to six tools (four for the main spindle, two for the counter spindle)
  • Chip-to-chip time = 0 seconds: Subsequent tools can be changed and pre-positioned during active machining
  • Shorter cycle times with two to three times higher output than conventional counter-spindle machines with three turrets

One Spindle – Full Performance

The ECX’s unique and completely new machine concept is based on proven components and functional units and consistently implements the philosophy of parallel machining and reduction of non-productive times. The optional interface system ensures fast and precise exchange of individual fixtures, while the modular design facilitates easy retrofitting or upgrading.

The Main Spindle

  • Up to four 3-axis tool/turret units for any type or combination of stationary or driven tools
  • Shortest switching and changeover times for the tool turret thanks to a highly dynamic torque motor
  • Kinematic coupling of the turret axis to the main spindle, enabling use as a full-fledged Y-axis
  • High-performance machining thanks to fast and precise clamping of the turret axis

The Counter Spindle

  • Up to two 3-axis tool/turret units for any type or combination of stationary or driven tools
  • Modular handling system that covers all requirements, such as the ultra-fast ejection of non-fragile parts and removal from the counter spindle, as well as the placement or transfer of fragile finished parts to an external handling system (e.g., a robotic cell with measuring and sorting functions)

SICS Software – Simple and Intuitive

The proven SICS software supports the machine user in configuration, programming, and production with the machine. The familiar SICS software modules are also available here and enable a step-by-step transition to Industry 4.0 applications.

  • SICS.connect: OPC UA-based communication interface for Schütte’s digitalization solutions, open to additional customer applications.
  • SICS.workstation: Allows you to create projects during work preparation and perform machine configuration and programming.
  • SICS.simulation: Fully integrated simulation solution that allows programs to be executed, checked, and optimized right at the workstation.
